ERC Calendar has been expanded. (May 25, 2007)

New ERC Calendar has been greatly enhanced!

Here's what's new!
  • You can now give your event a title! Sounds simple, we know, but we just missed this the first time around.
  • Multi-day and repeating events. You can list an event that takes place over several days, is on certain days of the week, or repeats over an extended period of time.
  • Classify your event by event types. Visitors can specify just the type of event that interests them (or all types). If you don't see an event type that fits for you, let us know.
  • Select the region in whch your event will be held. This makes it easier for visitors to find events happening near them.
  • Optional ending-time for events. You can now list the times that an event starts and ends. If you don't know when it will end, just leave that part blank.
  • New Maps! We've switched to Google Maps which we think are way cooler. If you include an address for your event, visitors can view a map and get directions.

What about the events you've already listed? We transferred all existing events to the new system, but because we've added new features to the calendar we had to guess on those. Please check your events to see if they are the way you want them.

In particular check:

  • The title of your event. (We copied the place name onto the title, but that doesn't usually describe the event very well.)
  • The region of your event. We used your home region, but if the event is somewhere else, you'll want to change that.
  • Select one or more "event types". Your existing events will show up no matter what type the visitors select, but it will help users to find you more easily if you select some "event types".
  • Set the end date for multi-day events. All the existing events are treated as one-day events.

We hope you like the new calendar! We look forward to hearing from you if you have questions, problems, or if you have suggestions to make it better. In the meantime, check it out at the ERC Calendar and enter all your public appearances. Log on to the Member Area, click on the name of your listing, and scroll to the bottom of the "Profile" page to "Upcoming Events" .

Share your talents — teach a Youth Enrichment Program! (July 24, 2006)

Can you teach a "Youth Enrichment Program?" You will be excited to know that the Governor's budget includes millions of dollars for arts education in California schools over the next several years. This includes storytelling, arts workshops, teaching programs and presentations.

At the same time, the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Council (SMAC) is reinstating its approval program which was in limbo for several years. Getting approved by SMAC can open many doors for you! Countless educators and community organizations repeatedly contact SMAC for recommendations of qualified "artist and performing artist educators or performers".

  • IMPORTANT: Even if you have been or currently are "approved" by SMAC, you must apply again to be included in the new SMAC directory. More good news — this new directory will be ONLINE, which means even more people and organizations will have access to it.
  • This is NOT a competition — SMAC wants to build a vast resource of qualified artists and performing artists who can teach everyone from school age children to senior citizens and other community members and groups. They will help you be successful in your application process.
  • You do NOT have to live in Sacramento County to apply for this directory. You need only to be willing to travel to the greater Sacramento Metropolitan area to teach.

Contact SMAC today for information about this simply process. The deadline is November 13, 2006. Don't wait — submit your application soon. When accepted, you will be approved for a three-year term. Visit SMAC Arts Education Resource Directory for the application and guidelines.
